The festive season will soon be upon us and many are already shopping for the big day.

Supermarkets have released their Christmas ranges and delivery slots, and now the nation’s favourite takeaways are joining in on the action.

Domino’s Pizza is the latest eatery to announce their festive menu, with a new pizza featuring all the trimmings of a Christmas dinner, and a brand new dessert, merging their popular cookies with a classic brand.

It’s the first time Domino’s has released a Christmas themed pizza.

The Festive One includes turkey breast marinated in sage and onion, traditional Cumberland sausage and bacon to give you a taste of the top trimmings.

Their new cookies – Cookies with After Eight – feature a soft mint centre, similar to the popular After Eight chocolates.

But is the menu as Christmassy as it sounds and could you really opt for that instead of a traditional festive feast?

The Festive One

The Festive One

This limited-edition pizza is sure to be a popular choice for the season and I couldn’t wait to try it.

Expectations were high with this festive feast and I was expecting a pizza full of flavour that would actually get me in the mood for turkey and all it’s glorious trimmings that go with it.

We ordered a large as we shared it between four of us and also got a large pepperoni passion ( a classic winner), just in case no one liked the new addition!

A word of advice for the pizza sizes at Domino’s – you’re actually better off getting a large because you get more for your money – the large pizzas are priced at £20.99 whereas the mediums are £18.99 – so for an extra £2 you can get a couple of more slices in, perfect for leftovers or if you’re eating in a group.

Anyway, back to The Festive One.

The smell of stuffing balls was enticing but I was worried the sage and onion flavour, mixed in with the turkey pieces, was going to be too overpowering.

It wasn’t.

There was just the right balance of sage and onion and the smoked bacon helped give it that pigs in blankets essence I was after.

However, after one slice, I found myself reaching for the Pepperoni Passion instead – not because The Festive One was horrible in flavour but because it unfortunately lived up to the dread we all fear at Christmas – a dry turkey.

The tomato sauce base was minimal on The Festive One – the turkey had soaked up almost of all the sauce and yet still tasted dry.

After one slice my taste buds were bored of the texture, and craved the traditional cheesy picture sauce of a pizza.

For me, a Cumberland sausage was a mistake too but that’s just because I prefer a pork sausage in taste.

The rest of the group didn’t agree with me though and quickly demolished most of the pizza, claiming they would definitely order it again.

For me, I’m not so sure.

I feel Domino’s may have missed a bit of a trick here, and could have experimented with flavours a little more but I understand they want to play it safe and go for something most customers would enjoy.

Perhaps a vegan Christmas pizza is next on the cards?

They definitely need to sort out the tomato sauce base balance ratio to toppings out though on The Festive One.

Overall I’ll give it 3/5 stars – tasty but not overwhelming in flavour like a Christmas dinner can be.

The Festive One is available to buy at your nearest Domino’s now£9.99 for a personal, £16.99 for a small, £18.99 for a medium and £20.99 for a large.

Cookies with After Eight

At Christmas there’s always a box of After Eight’s lying around in our household.

They have become a staple part of Christmas Day and festive celebrations, so I can see why Domino’s have paired up with them to make new cookies.

The ‘posh chocs’ can now be enjoyed in cookie form and they haven’t lost their gooey goodness.

Upon opening the box of warm cookies I was instantly hit with the minty smell. It was like a warm, refreshing hug that didn’t feel too strong on the senses.

Domino’s normal chocolate cookies are just as good – served warm – with their indulgent chocolate bursting inside.

These Cookies with After Eight are not only indulgent but also act as a little palette cleanser – something you’ll need after all that cheese!

I have to admit, I was a little upset I had to share the four of them and could only have one!

I’m not normally a massive chocolate fan as I find some cocoa desserts a little too rich – but these are worth it, they are so moreish and just want another as soon as you have finished the first.

After feeling a little disappointed from The Festive One pizza I was ready to dismiss the Domino’s Christmas menu altogether but the Cookies with After Eight saved the day.

If you’re going to try anything this Christmas I would say you need to try these – only if you’re a mint or After Eight fan of course, if not, I’ll happily eat yours.

5/5 stars.

The Cookies with After Eight are available for just £4.99.

It comes in batches of four, and you can get two for £6.99.

There is also a special dessert deal where customers can get two Ben & Jerry tubs of ice creams for £10.99.
